Examples of original oil paintings done on commission, per client specifications. If you would like to commission a painting, contact me for a consultation. Commissions can be painted in a wide size and price range, from small canvases for intimate spaces to large triptychs to fill corporate boardrooms. All of the paintings on this page are, of course, sold (as commissioned paintings they are not offered for public sale). But they can serve as examples, or prompt ideas.
Commissioning an original painting is a process where we talk about the subject matter, composition, size, price, etc. I usually make several preliminary "thumbnail sketches" to explore different possibilities. When we settle on a specific treatment, I require a 50% deposit to commence the work, with the balance payable upon delivery. Typical turn-around time is 4-6 weeks. Other factors, such as research, travel, portrait sittings, framing, delivery, and installation, can influence price or time of completion. Commissions can be painted directly from life, entirely from photographs, or sometimes a combination of the two.
